NO ASH CRASH FOR dataplex
20th April 2010
Manchester and Oxfordshire-based information and communication technology company, dataplex, has helped business avoid a crash in the volcanic ash crisis.
The virtual office, online conferencing and integrated ICT solutions have all helped to keep dataplex customers working during the transport crisis created by the eruption of the volcano in Iceland. Volcanic ash from the eruption has grounded flights in northern Europe for several days.

dataplex new business and marketing director, Charles Barratt said:
“We’ve provided several companies with an agile architecture based upon industry-leading technologies from HP, VMware, Citrix and Microsoft.
“Our solutions are all about keeping cost down and allowing businesses to cope with predictable and unforeseen demands. This is a classic example of key technologies working together to provide our customers with the ability to ensure system uptime when demand is high.”
dataplex clients have been able to use online conferencing when workers haven’t been able to get to meetings because of cancelled flights.
Barratt said:
“This is where the virtual office really starts to show its flexibility and value to business. Instead of people being stranded and unable to work, they can just get on with the job.
“Home working is a real advantage in situations like this. We have worked with many companies to develop their virtual office networks which have access to their main IT system. Companies are at a distinct advantage if they have this in place.”
Richard Sparrow, dataplex’s managing director, said:
“We now have the technology and IT infrastructure to plan for difficult moments in business, whether it’s bad snow in the winter or volcanic ash from Iceland.
“It’s important for IT planners to think about the crisis scenario when building their systems. If we can help people get it right, we can prevent problems and maintain business.”
dataplex, the UK’s leading independent ICT company, employs 50 people and works within business, industry and the public sector, including the NHS.
