MAKING WAVES

At dataplex, we're a young and dynamic bunch and every so often we like to focus on a member of our team. Last month, it was our dancing marketing manager, Sarah Morris. This month, it's action man, Steve Martin.

Steve, who looks after clients like Accenture, Menzies, Pamure Gordon UK, South Oxfordshire Housing Association and the NHS, spends his spare time wakeboarding and rock climbing.

He was born in Sydney, New South Wales and has the Aussie thirst for the great outdoors, action and adventure. He arrived in the UK five years ago while back-packing around the globe and, despite the weather, decided to stay.

Away from the office, he can often be found zooming around the lake at Hardwick Park in Oxfordshire or clambering up sheer rock faces in the Lower Wye valley in Wales.

Steve, who's based at our Oxfordshire HQ, said:

"Wakeboarding is a bit like snowboarding on water and it's a great way to relax and de-stress. I like to test what my body can and can't do and somersaulting ten feet in the air at 30mph tests you to your physical and mental limits."

He began rock-climbing while living in the UK:

"It's a great way to meet people and you find yourself in some really beautiful places. As a kid, I played a lot of team sports but as I've got older, I enjoy outdoor sports that stretch me personally," he said.

"I like the sense of adventure and the challenge. I like to see how far I can go before I break," he laughed.

The other big adventure in Steve's life is his forthcoming marriage to fiancé, Zenta.

"Zenta is Welsh and we often go wakeboarding together. I imagine that one day we'll head back to Australia but there's a lot more we'd like to do here first," said Steve.
